Dear parent(s)/guardian(s),

Welcome to St. Rita's Confirmation Preparation Program!

In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Confirmation preparation is a required two-year process undertaken by high school students (usually freshmen and sophomores) at their home parish. Our goal is to form true disciples of Jesus Christ. As we facilitate the interaction between the candidates and others who walk with them on their faith journey at St. Rita, we pray and hope that our youth will develop a deeper personal relationship with Christ, experience the power of the Holy Spirit working in their lives, and feel a sense of belonging to the Church.

During the first year (Y1), all registered Confirmation candidates are expected to attend and participate in the following program requirements from October 2011 to May 2012:

  • Eight monthly sessions.
  • Mass every Saturday vigil or Sunday, including the semi-monthly Youth Mass.
  • Each candidate will need to choose a sponsor by December 1, 2011. (See attached form.)
  • Each sponsor will need to attend one Saturday session with his/her candidate, followed by Mass with a Ritual of Welcoming for candidates and sponsors. Participation in the Living Stations of the Cross on a Friday afternoon during Lent.
  • 1 All-Day Retreat at St. Rita's in Spring 2012.
  • 10 participation hours at St. Rita's parish, including a minimum of three Youth Nites.
  • 10 service hours to help people in need. Service hours may start accumulating on June 1, 2011.

A final schedule will be sent via email to you in late August.

We will kick-off the year with a mandatory parent/candidate orientation on September 17, 2011, 3:30 – 5:15 p.m. followed by Mass.

If you are interested in St. Rita's Confirmation Preparation Program, please complete and return the attached registration forms (Download here: Registration Form | Sponsor Form | Service Completion Form), a copy of your child's Baptismal Certificate and First Communion Certificate, and payment to the parish center as soon as possible. Please note that the deadline for the Early Bird fee is June 30, 2011.
